Hi All, I'm Marc from the hills east of Perth in Western Australia.
I grew up with Aloes and Agaves, as my father was a passionate Mediterranean gardener. We had a front and back yard full of Aloes with enough Agaves for me to grow up hating them not the least for the thorns. I am also a passionate gardener and plant collector but despite all the encouragement from my farther I stayed well away from Aloes. That is until 15 years ago following a major life change, my wife an I decided to collect and grow succulents. And, well the apple does not fall far from the tree, I fell madly in love with Aloes and Aeoniums and have been collecting them ever since.
My front garden had been growing WA's wonderful sandplain flora and I had carted in truckloads of sand to achieve this. Well that's well drained soil right? so even though we get most of our rain in winter (over 1000mm on average) and a hot and very dry summer I can still grow most of the Aloes and the Aeoniums love it.
Love the site. There are some great photos and I wish I had found it earlier.
Here are a couple of mine
Aloe thraskii a favorite of mine and 2 of my 8 A polyphylla which I was very pleased to get this big. But unfortunately due to a 45C day last summer and a run of 40C days this summer has probably seen the end of them.
