Re: Echinocereus rigidissimus rubrispinus rat attack recovery!!
Same plant. I got this as a 2-inch freebie along with a plant I purchased 10 years ago.
Then about 5 years ago I had a rat in my greenhouse in winter -- which I couldn't catch. Finally, I just repelled it out of the GH with peppermint oil spray. He left, but as a parting gift he chewed a chunk out of the side of this cactus.
I don't grow cactus as a rule, but decided to keep this one in it's place on a hot ledge in the GH. It's pretty deformed and funky looking now, but it's a surviver and is becoming interesting to me.
The flowers are intense and ample payback for the small space it occupies.
