Uncarina Decaryi
I have had two of these plants for a couple of years now. They are getting nice, rounded caudexes, but neither one has bloomed yet. I've been giving diluted fertilizer in Summer, and leaves are nice and big. I looked at the larger one and noticed it is a little root bound in the pot. Should I re-pot or are they somewhat like pachypodium and don't mind being a little snug in the pot ? Also, any ides as to why they haven't bloomed yet, as they are supposed to be prolific bloomers ? I have them in full sun, outside in Summer, and in Winter, kept dry in a sunny greenhouse, about 55 degrees. Any advice welcome !

You are doing the same as me and mine flowers regularly although only coming into leaf now.
I repot every 2 years.
I guess it’s just a question of maturity.

Winston has them bloom for him in the UK. My Uncarina bloomed small,is in bloom right now even though this has been the coolest May-June in decades. I did pot it up last month so that might have got it going. They like a bit of root room compared to most caudex trees,or true caudex plants.

Thanks, I'll repot the larger one. I know they like to be watered more frequently, but I wonder if I'm overdoing it ?Stan wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 11:24 am Winston has them bloom for him in the UK. The very similar U. peltata today. Last November somebody poured pan water on it..and the long tips wilted bad at the trace soaps..shriveled. So not as puff as last year..but still might get back its old weeping Bonsai look.

I have to post a newer pic- the plant is coated in blooms. I've never seen it that good. I did pot up in size and also tossed a handful of acid fertilizer ( what I had,I use) to it. Its blooming like some kind of shrub Mandevilla with black eyed Susan blooms.

Re: Uncarina Decaryi
That is a Aloe pink something(blush?) that's in need of a complete replanting and separation of pups. I think some of it was pilfered as it used to fill that pot. I lost some that had been planted in ground in the front yard. Pilfered again.
Time to just do it the right way.

Re: Uncarina Decaryi
Here's the trunk of the U.peltata. Now,I've seen some of these that right below the trunk- a huge pachycaul had developed. My feeling is..some will ballon like that and that's why you should not expose it too soon,as that puts the kibosh on further growth of that. My feeling also is..some do,some don't grow that and I've seen some raised and..yeah,there were some fat roots.but not the big balloon caudex.
Maybe next summer I will hose off the top half of the root ball on mine and see what it looks like..if balloon than great,if not ? Just refill with fresh soil.

Re: Uncarina Decaryi
They are all near identical other than some foliage variety- and look at mine. It has U.grandidieri like leaves next to hardly cut palmate shaped leaves. Flowers are identical. I would not doubt in the future the botanists open their eyes and say- same plant, different geography is all.
