My sister-in-law saw this gnarly beauty in Monaco. Don't know if it's in a botanical garden or private collection. It looks to me like a crested form of saguaro cactus, but that's just a guess. Anybody care to hazard a guess?

Could be a saguaro, can't be sure...
Agave
"American aloe plant," 1797, from Greek Agaue, proper name in mythology (mother of Pentheus), from agauos "noble," perhaps from agasthai "wonder at".

Hard to tell from that avatar-sized picturette. Could be Trichocereus terscheckii, which is more common in European collections than saguaro.

You may be right, Paul. Here's a brief video of a population of that species in northern Argentina. It shows at least one crested form (starting at 5:15). It's an obviously anecdotal observation, but in driving through Arizona I don't recall having seen any crested saguaros.
