Agaveville

Hullo everybody. I've been growing Agaves for 39 years but with little success in the cool and wet north of England. Parryi parryi and neomexicana both came through a -18C freeze in 2010 -just. Now I live on the south coast I'm trying out a few more as apparently it rarely gets below -5C here. Now I'm looking for more to try out. Also I've been chasing FO 076 and the smaller variegates which seem so rarely to be available.

Welcome Greg! I believe you'll find FO 076 a might fussier than the likes of A. parryi.

Hi Greg and welcome to the forum from a grey and slightly damp coastal Essex. Yes, a fellow Brit - not many of us here so it is nice to swell the numbers. My 'thing' is growing cacti and succulents outside, been doing so here for 20 years, so we should chat sometime. Although I am away this coming week!

There is an eBay seller from somewhere near Eastbourne called plantlifecactus. He sells various selections of Agave titanota and variegated miniatures - one of the few UK nurseries who imports all these type of things from the USA. Hello all, Though I'm here in the U.S. I can assure you the Midwestern winters here can get quite cold and wet. Since our climate is continental I suspect it gets colder here. The coldest I can remember was -26 F & that was about 26 or 27 years ago. So perhaps we should share growing stories -- that is if you're interested.
