Please also visit Spination's listing for Tylecodon cacalioides and read all the great info provided there! Apparently there is significant debate about what constitutes a cacaloides from a wallichii and a lot of online confusion.I am posting this as T.wallichii because that is what i bought it as, and, even though i am not convinced one way or the other, it flowered for me last fall and the inflorescence seems to match wallichii better.
From what i was able to discern in the many online forums, one should not put too much importance on the physical makeup of the plant, (stem, leaf, etc) as the two species CAN mimic each other, fooling the staunchest veteran. The truth maybe seems to lie in the flower? Cacalioides flowers are more tubular, and at least in the many great photos i saw, seemed to be a more saturated yellow. Wallichii flowers are a lighter yellow and have a shorter bell shape. Also the angle of the flowers on the inflorescense in wallichii is supposed to be less than 45° or something like that. I didnt quite understand that part entirely.
