Beautiful, solitary, pinnate, monoecious, crownshafted palm from Fiji that grows up between 35'-50' tall. Its striking appearance is created by the ornamentally drooping, wide, deep green leaflets and jet purple-black crownshaft that fades rapidly to a light lime green as it turns into the tree's petioles. Trunks are fairly stout, whitish and prominently ringed. This is a very tropical palm in its needs and cannot be grown in a Mediterranean climate.

A real beauty this type of palm. I'm looking already very long time to get seeds or a seedling from this species, but it is almost impossible here in central europe were i live. Would love to see more pics here if somebody can post them - thank you in advance. ;)

I think Geoff that's the 9,057th tropical palm that for us the King Palm will have stand in for. I thought of Queens as Royal Palms of the bay area until real trunking Royals started showing up in San Jose...
Mangoes in Hayward. Not even a dream in the 70's or 80's.
