Hello from Sparks, Nevada
I am a long time CSSA member formerly from Playa del Rey, CA now retired and living in Sparks Nevada. My CA patio collection of about 40 smaller cactus was gifted to friends, with only four plants I thought might survive outdoors brought here to the high desert in Sparks. The sole survivor is Echinocactus, texenis, aka the Horse Crippler, which is now too small to trip anything larger than small field mice. I am now focused on acquiring new plants for my small outdoor rock garden with south facing blistering sun and frozen winters under some snow. I am experimenting these first two years with different plants, and a 50% survival rate. I now have Leo Chance's book and with research and this new found website, hope to expand and improve my rock garden skills and experience.
