Thanks to Ron for the invite to this forum. My hubby and I moved from Illinois to Arizona this past September and I fell head over heels in love with agaves and he with opuntia. We have a half acre of primarily full sun and have lots to learn. I look forward to talking plants and learning lots!

We joined the Central Arizona Cactus and Succulent Society shortly after arriving in the desert and that has been an amazing resource so far. Our first meeting was the PEG meeting "Agave Extravaganza" in January so that just fed into my agave addiction!

Welcome to Agaveville, and to Fountain Hills! I too, originally hail from Illinois.

Have you thought about adding a small tree or two to help in the shade department? Some Agaves will tolerate full sun here, but many require some afternoon help through summer.
Agave
"American aloe plant," 1797, from Greek Agaue, proper name in mythology (mother of Pentheus), from agauos "noble," perhaps from agasthai "wonder at".

"Some talk the talk, others walk the walk, but I stalk the stalk"

Yes, I would love to add a few small trees/shrubs this fall when it starts to cool down. I bought a Texas mountain laurel in early May which has crooked spectacularly in the full sun (prob not enough water on my part) so I will be waiting to add more when the sun levels are a bit less intense.
