Boy I couldn't tell those from Stapellia grandiflora if my life depended upon it... I have grown these for years. You sure this is correct?

Well, I posted this on Dave's garden and had it identified as S. hirsuta, by someone who collects Stapeliads. If you feel it has more in common with grandiflora I would not be able to disagree - I inherited this plant from friends who were moving away and did not want to take it with them and while I like it, I am currently too busy with my other obsessions: Cacti, Agaves, and to slightly lesser extent Aloes, to be adding Stapeliads to the list of plants I collect. When I got the original ID, I googled the plant and got enough similar looking pictures labeled as S. hirsuta that I accepted the ID as correct. If you feel this is too uncertain an ID I am happy to move this to the discussion forum and add a question mark to the title of the post.
It is what it is!

There are a number that look very similar. I wouldn't like to say which is which.

Looks like the flowers are fairly small, around 5-6 inches? I thought the flowers on grandiflora were much larger.

You may be thinking of gigantiea... grandiflora flowers are about 4" or so across.

Indeed, grandiflora is not a very grand iflora........

My gigantea came into bud last year but didn't develop. I'm expecting big things of it this year.

My mother had grandiflora or hirsuta when I was a kid. Remarkable dark, stinky hairy flowers.
