PM notifications to spam

Post by Melt in the Sun »

GS I expect you're already aware of this, but for the last couple months all the PM notifications go to spam, since they're coming from a different gibberish email address each time. This is in gmail at least. I clicked "not spam" for the first few but gave up after a while.

First I'm hearing of it. Anyone else?

I believe this is likely an exclusive Gmail issue, as Gmail is extremely sensitive about certain email authentication issues. I have in the past, had my personal email rejected by Gmail until adjusting a couple settings on my email server. Unfortunately, I have no way to drill down and address these issues within vbulletin. On the server is this, which is largely for the benefit of Gmail, AFAIK:
Reverse DNS (PTR) Valid

The system uses an alternate HELO of “az1-ts112.a2hosting.com” when sending mail from the “agaveville.org” domain.

“PTR” is properly configured for this domain.
So my server believes everything is fine and Gmail should not have issues. Of course, Gmail seems to keep switching things up, which can make it tough to keep up with. Is there some way to loosen up spam settings?

From what I see, it might help is you click "Looks Safe". There is this:
Create Custom Filters (For Specific Senders)

Click the Gear icon (Settings) > See all settings > Filters and blocked addresses.
Click Create a new filter.
In the "From" field, enter the email address or domain you want to allow (*.agaveville.org).
Click Create filter.
Check the box for Never send it to spam and Also apply filter to matching conversations (optional).
Click Create filter again.

Just following up on this - I was able to set up a simple filter in gmail using my username; anything with "Melt in the Sun" in the message doesn't get sent to spam.

It theoretically can also be fixed on the outgoing side per the tech gibberish in this link, if you care!

Nothing new there really. Agaveville meets or exceeds all Draconian gmail security measures.
