Hello Aloe lovers, growers and collectors! I am fairly new to this forum. I signed up a while ago but mostly just peruse the various posts and gorgeous plants.
I have an Aloe Dichotoma that I acquired about 4 years ago from a small grower out in the CA desert. It's a beautiful plant that is probably 10+ years old. The trunk is getting REALLY long, if I cut it about 1/2 way, allow to callous and dry out, how long is it going to take to start throwing root buds out? How long before I see actual roots?
Does anyone have any suggestions on anything else I should do(rooting hormone?, type of substrate to encourage faster rooting without rotting?, how to prepare it before cutting??)
I looked at a few posts from others who have asked questions regarding Aloe Dichotoma and noticed most answers included how slow they are to recover.
I usually keep it on the dry side and in fairly bright light throughout the year to keep its leaves tightly packed.
Thank you in advance and I look forward to any suggestions and/or input!

Re: Aloe Dichotoma Rooting Issue
Welcome to the forum! Cutting your plant is probably a bad idea. As you've read, they can be very very slow to root, if at all.

Re: Aloe Dichotoma Rooting Issue
It would be a shame to cut this with no certain outcome. Perhaps look for somewhere with a large glass space/atrium to donate to and then consider in future not buying tree aloes in z6
