Good day!
I want to propagate opuntias by immersion of leaves in the soil(clay loam) outdoors. Previous fall or maybe winter we put 4 leaves, all of them survived. My question is: is it better to immerse them in end of fall or winter or in the spring? Wet zone 8, up to - 12 celsius, 41.8 longitude. Species of opuntia: not sure, the most hardy, not indica.
Also you can answer my question on Yucca baccata viewtopic.php?t=14487, nobody has responded yet.
Sorry for my English.
When it is better to propagate Opuntia by soil dipping?

Best to plant cuttings in spring.

Re: When it is better to propagate Opuntia by soil dipping?
Good day!
I go to our property almost every day and spend money on the fare. One man suggested me to propagate cacti(same opuntia) since I go there. But another man told me that winter(we have around 5-6c most of the time) is not good for propagating them because the soil is cold and in the fall the soil is warmer because of passed summer. He said that I risk my cacti dying, better plant them in spring. He is not plant expert though. Is his point fair? Or opuntias cuttings can be propagated in winter as well? You already had responded Gee.S, the question arose because I ascend on the property every day and I could use this time for cacti propagation(to tell the truth, my brother who makes up for the fare and who sends me to the property told to propagate opuntias because we spend money anyway) .
